How "ICT" was enabled in Local Languages

The book of “How ICT was enabled in Local Languages” was written by Ms. Aruni Goonetilleke and published by the LK Domain Registry.  It was launched by the LK Domain Registry on the 22nd July 2020.

Ms. Aruni Goonetilleke and the LK Domain Registry are greatly appreciative of all those who supported this venture.

We now use the Internet, computers, phones and other electronic devices in Sinhala and Tamil But several years ago, this was not possible. Computers then worked only in English. If you didn’t know English, then you were shut out and totally unable to glean the benefits of ICT.

This book documents how people from the private sector, individuals, Government organizations and universities over the years, took on the challenge of enabling the use of local languages in ICT, successfully overcame the many impediments encountered and enabled the use of Sinhala and Tamil in ICT.

The National Library and Documentation Services Board of Sri Lanka has now reviewed the book and recommended it for libraries.
