FOUNDATION.LK is a not-for-profit initiative dedicated to equipping Sri Lankans with the knowledge, skills, and resources to navigate the digital world safely and confidently. It promotes responsible digital citizenship while unlocking opportunities in an increasingly technology-driven society.
Since 2009, the LK Domain Registry has empowered over 45,000 students, teachers, and principals across Sri Lanka through its educational and social initiatives. Its e-learning platform, SuhuruSara, has provided over 10,000 learners with training in web design, programming, and multimedia—offered in local languages to expand both academic and career opportunities.
Hithawathi, a nationally recognized cyber safety initiative—your “confidante in cyberspace”—has raised awareness among over 1.25 million internet users and directly supported more than 10,500 individuals facing online safety challenges. Meanwhile, Cyber Lowata Piyapath empowered 1,649 schools across 67 education zones, providing digital literacy training to over 18,000 students and 2,100 teachers, enabling them to build school websites and thrive in the digital age.
These impactful programs will now continue under the banner of FOUNDATION.LK, with a renewed focus on underserved communities in rural and remote areas.
To bridge the digital divide, FOUNDATION.LK ensures its e-learning platform, SuhuruSara, remains accessible and inclusive—offering courses in local languages that empower learners regardless of their location. Hithawathi continues to provide vital cyber safety education, helping citizens navigate the internet confidently and responsibly.
Through a growing network of certified centres, FOUNDATION.LK strengthens educational infrastructure in rural and semi-urban areas by offering accredited ICT training, digital awareness campaigns, and capacity-building programs. The aim: to equip youth with the skills, confidence, and qualifications needed to access local and global career opportunities.
Prof. Gihan Dias, CEO and Domain Registrar of LK Domain Registry, shared:
“As the sole administrator of the .LK top-level domain, the LK Domain Registry has always operated as a not-for-profit organization focused on community empowerment. While our initial goal was to expand internet usage, our mission evolved into helping all Sri Lankans harness the full potential of the digital world. FOUNDATION.LK was launched to carry this mission forward—bridging gaps, building skills, and creating a more inclusive digital future for everyone.”
Mr. Kushan Sharma, CEO of TechCERT, added:
